This diversity helps in sustaining the agricultural sector and provides income opportunities for farmers.

Agriculture is the mainstay of the rural economy in Chhattisgarh. The majority of the state’s population is engaged in agricultural activities, either as farmers or agricultural laborers.

Horticulture is a significant part of agriculture industry in Chhattisgarh. Aromatic Plants, Flowers, and Medicinal Plants form the key component of horticulture in the state.

Chhattisgarh has also shown remarkable growth in accepting Animal Husbandry as their occupation. Along with increasing livestock, production of Dairy Products, Poultry, Wool and Aquaculture had shown remarkable growth.

Inspite of such positive scenarios, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Aquaculture contributed only 18% of GDP during 2009-10. Farm Mechanisation, Modernisation and adoption of Best Practices can further strengthen the complete Farming Industry contribution, in Chhattisgarh’s Economy.
